The profession is being urged to offer its services for good causes this week.
National Pro Bono Week, starting today, will highlight the professional support available for free to the community.
Traditionally associated with the legal profession, accountants are increasingly becoming involved in offering pro bono services and the week intends to show that.
'The benefits to the professionals concerned are also significant, especially as chartered institutes, including the ICAEW, recognize pro bono activity as an integral part of continuing professional development,' said Nicki Della Porta, national campaign manager for ProHelp.
ICAEW chief executive Michael Izza said: 'Not only is it a really positive way of giving something back to our local communities; it also enhances the skills of the individuals who take on such work, and is a valuable aspect of accountants' professional development.'
