Threshold will triple from €50,000 (£33,000) to €150,000 (£100,000)

While British taxpayers still complain about the inheritance tax threshold, French president Nicolas Sarkozy has give a boost to French holiday homeowners by raising the IHT by 300%.

The threshold will triple from €50,000 to €150,000 per parent per child.

The move will also benefit British owners of French properties whether they are resident or not, as under French tax rules any asset in France is taxed in the country even if its owner lives and dies overseas.

The dramatic changes follow property price rises, which pushed more taxpayers above the IHT threshold
