Women more interested in promotion than men

Female accountants are more interested in promotion than men, according to latest survey

Written by AccountancyAge.com

Women accountants are more interested in promotion than their male counterparts, research by Robert Half and the ICAEW has revealed.

Its latest study revealed that 47% rated opportunities for promotion as an important influencer in determining job satisfaction, compared with just 40% of men.

While women appear more interested in climbing up the career ladder, the research also revealed another surprising statistic – working overseas is not of major importance for accountants when it comes to career opportunities.

When asked about the importance of an opportunity to transfer or a secondment overseas, only 7% of all chartered accountants surveyed stated that it played an important part in ensuring their job satisfaction, well below a good 'informal' work social life (11%) and the company's environmental policy (12%).

In terms of job satisfaction, training featured high on the list for all job roles, particularly for chief accountants, tax specialists and business analysts.
