Junior minister announcements due mid-afternoon

Identity of paymaster general to be announced later today after timetable slips due to bomb

Written by Alex Hawkes and our Parliamentary Staff

Junior minister announcements, including the identity of the new paymaster general in charge of the tax authority, are set to be announced this afternoon, Accountancy Age understands.

Dawn Primarolo, the long-serving paymaster general, did not get a full Cabinet position in the announcement of Brown's government yesterday, and all eyes will be on whether she stays in her post looking after HM Revenue & Customs.

Junior posts in the Treasury, as well as the new Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (DBERR) will also be closely watched.

An announcement was due at 12, then delayed to 12:30, but given the bomb found on Haymarket this morning, there is expected to be a delay until perhaps mid-afternoon.

The announcements are set to be revealed on the Prime Minister's website.
