A fund aimed at supporting bursaries for disadvantaged individuals who might not otherwise have the chance to become accountants as well as prizes for academic excellence and outstanding contributions to society, has been set up by the ICAEW.

The fund, known as the ICAEW Foundation was launched at the institute’s annual lunch this week, and was 'created out of the desire to promote and reward excellence in accountancy education and research'.

The foundation has set an initial endowment fundraising target of £10m.

Institute president Richard Dyson said: ‘The foundation offers members, other prospective benefactors, grant-making trusts and firms an opportunity to make a contribution of lasting benefit to help shape the future of the profession.’
