Chief witness wraps up testimony against Conrad Black

Black confident that 'no jury in the world' would convict him on the basis of Radler's testimony

Written by Penny Sukhraj

Conrad Black says he is confident that no 'jury in the world' would convict him on the testimony provided by his former business partner, David Radler.

Black's comments came after two weeks of intensive testimony from Radler, the chief witness for the prosecution in the fraud case against Black.

Radler agreed to plead guilty to the fraud and to also testify against his former media tycoon partner in exchange for a lenient jail sentence and fine.

But his testimony was torn apart by Black's lawyer, who accused him of implicating Black so as to secure a cushy deal from the prosecution.

'I don't think he has any credibility,' Black said outside the Chicago courtroom.

'I don't think any jury in the world would convict anybody on the basis of what he said. I repeat my long-standing view that this was never a criminal case – except possibly against him.'
