Technology diploma consultation ends this week

Qualification will prepare school leavers for employment and further study

Written by Sarah Arnott

The consultation phase for a specialised IT diploma for 14-19 years olds closes at the end of this week.

Technology is one of the first five subject areas to develop the Diploma, which is expected to become available in 2008.

The aim is to create a qualification that acts as a transition from school to either higher education or employment.

Diplomas will be available at three levels and each will include both general content, such as maths and English, and business and technology skills.

Development of the Diploma is being led by sector skills council eSkill UK and includes representatives from education, the IT industry and commercial businesses.

The current proposals are open for public consultation until 16 June at the eSkills UK website.
