Lord Carter today gave the green light for looking again at the controversial movement of self-assessment filing dates, that has caused uproar in the accounting profession.

In a presentation at an ICAEW event this morning, Lord Carter said that if a case for looking at the proposed dates can be made to HM Revenue & Customs, then he would do so.

Lord Carter said: 'People have said this should be looked at again. I know what has been said, if a case can be made to look at it again, then i will.'

His comments will be viewed as giving a huge boost to the profession in its negotiations to persuade HMRC to look again at plans, recommended by Lord Carter, to move SA filing deadlines forward to November for online filing and September for paper returns.
