UK web developer faces extradition to US

Family vows to defend London man in High Court

Written by Ken Young

The Home Office is to extradite web developer Babar Ahmad to the US to face trial on alleged terrorism offences.

Ahmad, 31, a computer expert from Tooting in south London, is accused of running websites that support terrorists and urging Muslims to fight a holy war. He is currently being held in Woodhill Prison in Milton Keynes.

Ahmad's family is intending to appeal against the extradition order in the High Court, claiming that there is no evidence against him and that he should be tried in Britain, if at all.

"We have seen where the Americans have put forward allegations against an individual and eventually when it's come to court the case has been thrown out, " his family told the BBC.

The Muslim Council of Britain said that it is "very disappointed" in the extradition ruling, and feared that it could contribute to "further alienation" among Muslim youths.
